Drawing His Own Path: Building a Distinct Visual Language Through ILTIZAM Seni
When Aimman Hafizal joined ILTIZAM Seni Cycle 1/2023, he was seeking space to expand his creativity. What he gained was a clearer understanding of what it takes to build a sustainable career as a professional artist, beyond merely producing artworks.
Throughout the programme, Aimman learned practical aspects of artistic practice, including project planning, financial management, time management and long-term career development. Mentorship, including guidance from Hamir Soib, encouraged him to evaluate his work more critically and gave him the confidence to approach his artistic journey with greater purpose.
“ILTIZAM Seni also gave me the room to experiment. During the residency, I developed the original characters that have become part of my artistic identity, while exploring larger-scale isometric compositions that challenged technical skills and visual storytelling. These experiments helped me build a more distinctive visual language,” Aimman said.
Since completing the programme, Aimman’s career has gained significant momentum. He has presented two solo exhibitions: What If? A Journey through Folktales at G13 Gallery, and Back to School at ACCESS KL Art Fair, organised by G13 Gallery. His work has also reached international platforms through ASYAAF 2024 in Seoul, South Korea, Art Future 2026 in Taiwan with G13 Gallery, and Art Moments Jakarta 2026 in Indonesia with G13 Gallery. He has also collaborated with TOKO Art and YTL Group, expanding his practice beyond conventional gallery spaces.
Aimman’s story demonstrates how ILTIZAM Seni helps artists translate creative ambition into professional growth. Through mentorship, experimentation and networks, the programme creates pathways for artists to move from local development to wider regional and international visibility.
